The Pursgloves of Stainton by Tickhill - [STNT]

Recorded in Domesday as 'Staintone with Helgebi', the name Stainton derives from the Saxon for 'Stone Farm'.  The original farmstead which was demolished was known as the Rock House.

This was an agricultural settlement, but in 1907 the shaft for Maltby Colliery was sunk in the Stainton parish, shifting the economy to coal mining.
