Pursgloves in Barbados

This is a sovereign island in the Lesser Antilles, east of the Windward Isles in the Caribbean sea.  It was first documented in 1511 by the Spanish.  The island was claimed by the British in 1624 and the first settlers arrived in 1627 to establish an English colony.  Barbados became an independent state in 1966.

The economy of Barbados developed on growing sugar cane, which gave a significant income.  Now the economy is largely tourist based.
