The Pursgloves of Elmton - [ELMT]

This is a very ancient settlement with evidence of human habitation from the Devensian Ice Age, an Iron Age fort and a Roman encampment.  This was a large settlement in the 15th Century, but it is now much smaller, the main village being 19th Century in age.

The land belongs to the Duke of Portland of Welbeck Abbey and many of the village occupants service the estates of Chatsworth House.  St Peters Church was rebuilt in 1773 in the Georgian style.
