The Pursgloves of Bolsover - [BOLS]

"Boza" is a small town near Chesterfield.  Old Bolsover is developed around Bolsover Castle.  The new town and Model Village are situated below the main town and  Car Vale, Shuttlewood,  Stanfree, Oxcroft and Whaley make up the rest of the Civil Parish.  It is thought that the name derived from 'Bula's Ofer'  which is Old English for Bulls Ridge.

With an economy base of agriculture, Bolsover became a mining town when the Bolsover Colliery shaft was sunk at Doe Lea in 1890.  The colliery closed in 1993.
